"Getting Started in OS X" (Code GX) There is several versions of this course including OS10.3.9 and OS10.4.7 They introduce you to basic features of Mac computers and Mac OS X. It includes mouse skills, working with menus, icons, windows and the dock and using programmes such as Appleworks 6, Calculator, Address Book etc. It also includes using CDs, setting System and Programme Preferences and an introduction to the Internet and E-mail.
"Getting Started (Code GS) introduces features of the Macintosh computer and word processing section of Apple Works 5 (= Claris Works 5.) It includes mouse and keyboard skills and tasks involving saving work and managing folders, editing text, using balloons, calculator, numeric pad, note pad, floppy disks and CDs.
"Beginners Revision" (Code BR) This course is a repeat of "Getting Started" for those students who would like further practice. It is available to anyone and there is a reduced charge for students who have done "Getting Started" and no other courses.
"Apple E-mail" (Code AE) Deals with setting up Mac computers running on Mac OS X so as to use Mail, the Apple e-mail programme. It includes sending, receiving, saving, forwarding, replying to, and printing email messages, attaching files and maintaining an address book .
"Outlook Express E-mail" (Code OE) Deals with procedures for working in Outlook Express 5, sending, receiving, saving, forwarding, replying to, saving and printing email messages, attaching files and maintaining an address book using Outlook Express 5 in computers running on Mac OS 9 or earlier.
"World Wide Web -
Internet" (Code IN) deals
with the Internet Browser, Web Sites, Basic Navigation, Saving Text,
Bookmarks & Favourites, Organising Favourites, Saving a picture,
Searching the Web, Introduction to Web mail.
Logging in, Receiving and Sending Web mail, Checking your own email,
Advantages of Web mail, News groups, and Printing Web

Appleworks
Courses:
Appleworks is a composite programme with 6 parts, Word processing,
Spread sheet, Database, Drawing, Painting and Presentation.
"Getting to Know AppleWorks 5 & 6" (Code AW) builds on skills and background of the "Getting Started" basic course and gives an overview of word processing, databases, drawing, and painting. It introduces menus and tools for working in text and graphics, with tasks that include setting out a letter with envelope and making a database, letterhead, business cards, mailing labels and greeting cards.
"An Introduction to Word Processing - AppleWorks 5 & 6 (ClarisWorks)" (Code WP) is for people who have some basic skills. It teaches the techniques for creating documents and covers topics such as: Page set-up, Document set-up, Text display, Line spacing, Text alignment, Saving and printing, Tabulation, Bullets, Editing, Accents, Headers and Footers, Spell Checker and Thesaurus, Creating Footnotes and Using Graphics.
"An Introduction to MicroSoft Office 2004" (Code MS) is for people who have some basic skills. It introduces you to Word program, Excel (a Spread sheet program), Entourage (a e-mail program & Optional) and Powerpoint which is a presentation program
"Getting into Drawing and Painting - AppleWorks 5 & 6 (ClarisWorks)" (Code DP) extends the Draw and Paint coverage of "Getting to Know AppleWorks 5 & 6". As a fuller study it teaches skills and techniques with Draw and Paint tools and menus, enabling more advanced students to draw objects, make diagrams, and display text for a variety of uses. Drawing talent is definitely not a prerequisite!
Spreadsheets (SS) This course is new having just been produced and deals with all aspect of Spreadsheets. Spreadsheets are used widely for working with finance, numbers and can even be used as a data bases.
Data Base - This course uses ApplwWorks Data Base application. Ideal for keeping records such as membership records etc.
1. Workshops are available to Distant members who have already completed a number of courses covering a range of topics.
2. Workshops are equivalent 2 hour sessions. Cost $10 per workshop.
3. Workshop notes are provided via email as attachments, thus would avoiding printing and postage costs. Hard copy of notes are available on request at extra cost.
4. If you experience any difficulty with any of these workshops please let us know as some workshops may need adjustments to better address your requirements.
The following workshops are available and hopefully suitable as Distance Learning material. Some workshops do not translate well for distance learning and therefore have not been made available.
"CD / DVD Burning" (Code WCD) Burning CDs and DVDs using Disk Utilities. General principles of backingup your data and backingup your data using a USB Pen drive, a USB external drive or burning a CD.
"iTunes" (Code WIT) collecting, storing, organising and playing music. (Mac OSX)
"Convert LPs and Cassettes to CD " (Code WLP) deals with converting analogue audio LP and cassette recordings to digitally recorded files. Equipment: LP record player, stereo amplifier, tape deck, speakers and software, mainly shareware (Amadeus II), apart from SpinDoctor (comes with Toast).
"Backingup" (Code WBA) General principles of backingup your data and backingup your data using a USB Pen drive, a USB external drive or burning a CD.
"Spotlight" (Code WSL) using Spotlight to search and find files (Mac OSX)
"iPhoto" (Code WIP) Import and export, maipulate and manage photos using iPhoto (Mac OSX)
These workshops relate to either specific equipment and or software. However the principles and procedures will generally still apply if different equipment is used.
"Manipulating Digital Images" (Graphic Converter) (Code WGC) using Graphic Converter shareware (US$30) to manipulate images, ie resize, enhance, touch-up etc
"Convert Video to DVD" (Code WCV) transfering analogue VHS images to digital images for recording on DVD. Equipment: Canopus converter or similar converter. No special software needs to be purchased.
"Scanning & Scanners"(Code WS1) Basic scanning using a Epson flatbed scanner.
"Scan, Copy & Print" (Multifunction) (Code WS2) using a Epson Stylus Multifunction scanner.
"Scanning 35mm Transparencies" (Code WS3) using a Epson Stylus Multifunction scanner.
"Mactropolis" (Code WMT) introduction to using the Mactropolis Bulletin Board. On this site is a special folder which is only accessible to Distant Learning members of SeniorNet Mac at no cost. CD available with password and software Cost $5

"Card Making" (Code WCM) using AppleWorks to create Greeting Cards. CD available with templates, clipart and demo software Additional Cost $5 (suitable for Mac OS9 & OSX users)
Microsoft Office Suite is a composite programme with 6 parts, Word-processing, Spreadsheet, Graphics and Presentation, and Personal Data.
"Word Processing 1" (CodeWW1) using MS Word to create a document, copy, paste, change fonts, check spelling etc and print.
"Word Processing 2" (CodeWW2) using MS Word and how to indent, tab, paragraphing, adiing graphics, preview documents, adding footers & headers etc.
"Spreadsheets" (CodeWEX) using Excel to set up a spreadsheet, enter and edit information, use mathematical functions, make and sort lists etc.
"Personal Data" (CodeWET) using Entourage for emailing, organising contacts and events, making and sorting lists.
